Earlier this month, Lindenguild resident Ella Quinones attended an awards luncheon hosted by Mega Contracting, to accept a $1,000 education scholarship towards her Bachelor of Science studies. Living at Lindenguild has provided Ella, pictured with her mother, with the stability and confidence to return to school and pursue her interest in alternative medicine and her dream to open a holistic spa.
Mega Contracting offered scholarships to the winning essay writers from Lindenguild and Silverleaf, which they helped construct. In her essay, Ella wrote of being inspired by her grandmother Celia, born in Puerto Rico in 1910, who was home-schooled and went on to raise four children, and her mother, Sylvia, whose passion for learning drove her to earn 11 different certificates, diplomas, and degrees.
Ella has six children herself, and has so far maintained a GPA of 4.0 – all while home-schooling three of her children and juggling her career. Mega’s scholarship will be a great help to her in covering the costs of books and supplies. In the future, Ella is hoping to progress to medical school.
