Overview:
Schafer Hall consists of 91 newly constructed units of permanent supportive housing in the East Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan. Thirty-six studio apartments are set aside for formerly homeless single adults living with special needs, 25 studios are reserved for young adults who have aged out of foster care, and 30 two-bedrooms are for low-income families from the local community. A unit is reserved for the building’s live-in superintendent, who is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.
Services:
Lantern Community Services delivers on-site supportive service programming to all Schafer Hall tenants. Program offices offer space for staff to conduct individual and group client meetings, life skills counseling, and referral support to health service providers. The office space also has a resource room with computers available for use by the residents. Supportive services at Schafer Hall provide tenants with a variety of opportunities for personal growth. Staff and tenants work together to establish individual goal-centered service plans. Service programs help tenants obtain stable employment, develop money management skills, identify educational opportunities, and develop health service consumption skills.
