Schafer Hall consists of 91 newly constructed units of permanent supportive housing in the East Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan. Thirty-six studio apartments are set aside for formerly homeless single adults living with special needs, 25 studios are reserved for young adults who have aged out of foster care, and 30 two-bedrooms are for low-income families from the local community. A unit is reserved for the building’s live-in superintendent, who is available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.
