The Senior Director of Specialty Programs and Program Evaluation reports to the Senior Vice President and is an active member and participant in the Senior Management Team.  With oversight of four Specialty Program Directors and their 17 staff working across all programs, the Senior Data and Evaluation Manager and the Housing Specialist, the Senior Director will utilize his/her management experience to ensure the provision of quality programs that meet the client’s needs.  They will also implement evaluation methods and metrics to report outcomes that can demonstrate the quality and efficacy of programs to funders.  This is an exempt position.  Specific areas of focus include the following:


Specialty Program Management

  • Supervise four Specialty Program Directors and indirectly oversee their reports, currently 17 staff across the four programs
  • Manage and oversee Specialty Programs including Health and Wellness; Employment and Education; Arts, Culture and Fitness; and Nutrition and Culinary Arts
  • Actively participate in the planning, start up, long-term implementation and evaluation of Lantern’s specialty programs, including overseeing activity and event logistics and involvement of staff
  • Manage program budgets and understand the contract requirements in order to relate funding to performance
  • Partner with External Affairs in all fundraising efforts on the programs’ behalf
  • Plan and schedule program timelines, balancing agency and program needs
  • Determine program deliverables and report on program outcomes using metrics and other evaluation methods
  • Provide direction, motivation, support and inspiration to the specialty program teams
  • Ensure that specialty programs are fully integrated into overall programming at all Lantern sites
  • Ensure that quality guidelines and recommendations are met
  • Prepare progress reports for the Senior Vice President and Executive Team, as required


Data and Performance Metrics Management

  • Supervise Senior Data and Evaluation Manager
  • Oversee ongoing development and implementation of program evaluation formats including monthly data dashboard
  • Oversee launch of Lantern’s Learning Lab and development and ongoing adjustment of program Logic Models
  • Assist with management and improvements to agency record keeping and data management systems.


Staff Training and Development

  • Work closely with the Senior Vice President and other senior staff to analyze training needs, develop new training programs, and/or modify and improve existing trainings
  • Conduct or arrange for ongoing technical training and professional development trainings for staff
  • Source and oversee contracting with all new outside trainers
  • Provide onboarding training related to specialty programs and evidenced based models
  • Manage training calendar
  • Identify the need for and oversees the implementation and logistics of other staff development activities, in collaboration with the Manager of Human Resources and other specialty staff, including but not limited to all staff meetings and all staff outings and events


Evidence-Based Program Management

  • Oversee selection, implementation and management of all evidence-based programs
  • Determine where models are needed and oversee selection process using objective criteria including funding priority and availability
  • Develop and manage EB program budgets in coordination with the contract requirements
  • Trouble-shoot issues involving funding, space, coordination with property management, and liability potential
  • Assist with the negotiation and oversight of contracts with model developers and consultants
  • Ensure plans for training of replacement staff is in effect
  • Maintain regular contact with all developers and consultants
  • Monitor staff fidelity and develop and implement plans to improve
  • Justify program investment by developing and reporting outcome measures that demonstrate positive impact on the lives of our clients


Cross-Site Program Management

  • Oversee cross-site programs
  • Manage the Moving On Initiative; Supervise Housing Transition Specialist
  • Ensure Moving On Initiative meets all grant requirements
  • Develop and implement other cross-site programs, as needed, including but not limited to the Young Adult Transitions Toolkit


  • Master’s Degree in a related field is required
  • Experience in a supervisory role which includes operational/administrative management for 5+ years in a socially responsible organization
  • Demonstrated experience in program supervision, outcome measurement and fiscal management
  • Demonstrated expertise in one of the three service areas and success developing and monitoring programmatic work and creating metrics to measure outcomes
  • Experience implementing and working with evidence based models
  • Excellent writing and people skills, with an ability to partner with a dynamic leadership team
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to the mission of Lantern Community Services
  • Flexible and able to multitask – can work within an ambiguous, fast moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions; demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems

LOCATION: Main Office, Manhattan

WORK SCHEDULE: Full time, Monday to Friday
